The Doberman Pinscher may have a reputationfor being a sharp and even sinister dog, but with proper training, he can be a friendly, stable companion. Learn more about this Workingbreed and whether he might be the right dog breed for you.

They’re generally brainy.

Considered one of the smartest dog breeds, the Doberman needs an outlet for his intelligence or else you might find yourself with a bored, destructive dog. Because he’s usually so smart, he also tends to take well to training.

They’re often protectors.

The Doberman tends to be a loyal type who will protect his family. He’s also typically an alert watchdog capable of anticipating danger and threats. However, if he hasn’t been socialized and trained to behave appropriately around strangers, he may be suspicious of and potentially aggressive toward visitors in your home.

They can be athletic.

Typically an energetic breed, the Doberman may enjoy hiking, running and agility. In fact, in the 1950s, before agility and freestyle competitions were invented, the Doberman Drill Team thrilled audiences with its amazing physical feats.

They come in a variety of colors.

You’re probably familiar with the black Doberman with rust markings, but the breed comes in a number of colors including blue (actually gray) with rust markings, various shades of red-brown with rust markings and a light tan color called “Isabella,” which also has rust markings.

They can be good with children.

A Doberman raised with kids and other pets is likely to love and protect them.

COMMENTS FROM LOVINMYPUP.COM:

While it should be well known that I am an equal opportunity lover of all dogs and cats, you may have guessed that I have a special place in my heart for Doberman Pincers,      When my son was 18 yrs old he and his girlfriend asked me if they could buy a Dobie puppy.  I said “ABSOLUTELY NOT”.  Of course they didn’t listen to me and the next week they walked into my house with an 8 week old Dobie puppy.    I melted right away.    That was the first day of my history with 6 Dobermans throughput my adult life.

I firmly believe that the aggression has been bred out of the breed over the years.  Dobies are extremely smart and wonderfully loving.  They are an energetic dog who is very loyal to their pet parents.   As with many other breeds,  if the dog is raised with love, the dog will respond lovingly.      When I purchased my Bella, I was told that she was a purebred Doberman.  Those who follow this site know that after I did an Embark DNA swab on her,  I discovered that she was 75% Doberman  and 25% Wamerainer.   I can tell you that this combination is awesome,  Laughing to myself, my “purebred”  Dobie is the best dog that I ever had.  She breezed through Service Dog Training for Mobility. and has been by my side for the last 8 years.    Some dog breeds have a bad reputation based on past history. but that does not mean that every dog in the breed will be problematic.                                  .

We are delighted to announce a new affiliate agreement with  Embark Vet (DNA testing for pups)  this testing not only provides DNA testing but also genetic information on various propensities towards genetic illnesses that your pup might be prone to   based on their breed.   It is well worth the fee for all of the information that you get fro the finished report.    I ordered a kit and had my Bella tested.   I received a 16 page report answering all of the questions that I had about my service dog!   The great news s tat Bella has no genetic tendencies for the most common deadly diseases prone to Doberman Pincers  This company provides one of the most complete genetic testing profiles that I have seen.  If you have questions – check out this site for report examples.
